Kimberly Blair shared at church on Sunday, April 19 about her missions involvement in Tanazania, Africa and her upcoming trip this summer (June 25 - July 9). It was an amazing story. If you weren't there, be sure to read "The Details" below.
Kimberly prayed that God would enable her to raise her full support ($3,500), so that she could help her sister and best friend raise theirs. God answered her prayer within two weeks!
The good news is that most of her sister's support has come in, so Kimberly is now focused on helping her best friend raise $3,500 to get to full support.
P.S. The mountain in the background of the first photo is Mt. Kilimanjaro. The village where Kimberly and the team are going sits at the base of the mountain.
Kimberly shared that, after spending 14 years as a stay-at-home mom (which is a in itself a mission field), she went back to teaching and was hired at Perimeter Christian School (PCS). Kimberly begin hearing about a school in Tanzania that PCS helped support. Our own Ken Graves was part of the first trip to purchase the land and help develop a vision for this school. Kimberly desperately wanted to go but knew with young children, it was not the right time. Finally, in 2023, God opened the door for her to go. It was an amazing experience!
Teachers from PCS have been going for over 20 years to train, equip, and support the teachers, with some PCS teachers even staying and teaching.
This is amazing... Students in Tanzania take a test in fourth and seventh grade. If they fail, their schooling is over. Before PCS got involved, only three students had ever passed the test. Since PCS began training teachers, not one student has failed the test! Wow!
Getting into our school there is like the golden ticket out of poverty. The students get a Bible based education taught by loving teachers, lots of curriculum and resources, and two meals a day while there. That is sometimes the only meals those children get.
For the first week of Kimberly’s upcoming trip, they’ll do workshops and training for the teachers. During the second week when the children are on campus, Kimberly and the missions team will mentor teachers by observing their lessons, giving feedback, and modeling teaching by organizing and teaching lessons and giving ideas for using the supplies that they’re bringing. Would you believe that a pencil is a prized commodity! Kimberly’s team will be bringing plenty of pencils, and the children will feel like it’s Christmas!
Kimberly’s team and PCS partners with UBORA (a non-profit ministry that Perimeter Church helped launch with this ministry to Tanzania and education as its primary focus). UBORA has purchased more land to build a secondary STEM school and construction has begun! They had to start by building a wall to keep the elephants out! The school there is having such great success, that Tanzanian government officials have begun moving to the area to have their children attend the school!
Kimberly shared that the opportunity to worship and teach with these amazing people is one of the greatest experiences of her life. After all the mission trips she’s done, this is the one where she feels like God is able to use the teaching abilities He gave her to make a true difference, telling children about Him and helping them rise above the situation they are in and hopefully become leaders in the village where they are.
Kimberly’s sister, Alissa, is a sixth-grade science teacher, and this will be her first trip. Kimberly’s best friend, Elizabeth, is a music teacher and is making a return trip. In fact, Elizabeth was the first music teacher to go and impacted their program so much that now they have started an actual music class!
Alissa and Elizabeth both teach in public schools and are not able to send letters to their students’ families, so Kimberly knew it would be much more difficult for them to raise their support. Now that Kimberly is fully funded, she wants to be able to help them raise support. That’s where Good News Church comes in, and we can help!
