You may have heard the words, Elders and Deacons, used to describe leaders in the church, but perhaps it hasn't been real clear as to what exactly those words mean. Elder and Deacon are both Biblical words.

  • Elder (Presbuteros in the original Greek language) is a term to describe church leaders (servants) who are primarily tasked with tending to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the church body.
  • Deacon (diákonos in the original Greek language) is a term to describe church leaders (servants) whoa re primarly tasked with tending to the physical needs of the church body,  the church itself, and the community.
