"Making Relationships Work" by Dr. John Gottman

  • This one talk divided up into four 10-minute video segments. Dr. John Gottman is one of the world's leading marriage researchers.
  • Dr. Gottman analyzed thousands of couples using video, physiological monitoring, and interviews, and as a result of his research, he is able to predict, to a 90% or better accuracy, within 15 minutes of interacting with a couple whether or not they will divorce.
  • Key findings of Gottman's research that you'll hear in this talk include the 5:1 positive-to-negative interaction ratio, the "Four Horsemen" of divorce (contempt, criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling), and the importance of bids for connection.
